Effective Skin Treatments
At Healthy Skin Clinic we understand that some skin conditions are more difficult to treat than others and that treating internal imbalances is vitally important. Treatment of rosacea rarely responds well to a topical treatment alone which is why we always work on identifying and treating the cause.
1. Identify and correct any food related or lifestyle factors that may be contributing to the rosacea;
2. Take into account any underlying health problems that are identified during our skin consultation and work to rectify those health issues by prescribing nutritional and herbal supplements;
3. Prescribe especially formulated topical skin products to help decrease the appearance of redness and other signs of rosacea.
Testing for Triggers of Rosacea
As with all skin problems there are generally nutrient and other imbalances that can be identified with some testing. We recommend that our clients have an Oligoscan to identify nutritional excesses and deficiencies, anti-oxidant stress and heavy metal toxicity.
Your skin specialist may also recommend some Functional Pathology Tests to determine how such things as gut problems or stress levels are contributing to rosacea.
Testing takes the guess work out of treatment and allows the practitioner to ‘fine tune’ your rosacea treatment program.
Your Rosacea Treatment Program
An individualized Skin Treatment for Rosacea will be provided to you following your skin consultation.
Included in your treatment program will be specific recommendations based on general research about the triggers of rosacea but also recommendations based upon your individual needs and our findings. These will include eating, lifestyle and other information.
Recommended supplements are based upon testing and our health findings. Rosacea topical products include ingredients that are known to address the identified problems of the skin found in rosacea. All products are produced exclusively for Healthy Skin and are developed by nurse, naturopath and Formulation Chemist, Vivienne Savill.
The Healthy Skin Clinic Membership Site
As part of your Rosacea Treatment you will given access to the Healthy Skin Clinic Membership Site. Access is provided exclusively to clients who have had a consultation. Your skin care specialist will indicate which areas on the Membership Site that they would like you to look at. The membership site provides detailed information about treatment, the latest research, foods to increase or decrease and other specific recommendations to support our clients during their healing program.
Once you are granted access to the Membership Site you will also be able to reorder your prescribed supplements and topical products for your rosacea treatment.
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition of the face that is characterized by redness, particularly over the cheeks. Redness is due to the persistant blood supply to the face. Close examination will reveal;
- prominent (sometimes referred to as “broken”) blood vessels called telangiectasia
- papules: small areas of raised, solid skin from pinhead to 1cm in size usually red
- sometimes pustules (pimples) on the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead
- frequent flushing or skin blushing
- dryness or flaking of the skin.
There are other variants of rosacea such as rhinophyma. This mostly occurs in males and causes thickening of the nasal skin, which sometimes gives it a bulbous, enlarged shape.
Causes of Rosacea
Not a great deal is known about the causes of rosacea. Several theories have looked at rosacea and gut problems, nutritional imbalances, inflammation, infection, genetic factors, dietary and lifestyle factors.
When developing a treatment program, we consider all the latest research and theories to ensure the best treatment outcomes.
It has recently been found that neutrophils (white blood cells) infiltrate the dermis in a person with rosacea. This results in dilation of blood vessels and vasodilation. Swelling takes place as fluid leaks from the dilated blood vessels. Inflammatory agent travel to the dermis producing inflammation. Hormones necessary for remodeling of normal tissue are also believed to play a part in rosacea. There high concentration can contribute to skin thickening, inflammation and hardening of the skin.
Rosacea is often referred to as acne rosacea because of the presence of pustules (pimples) however rosacea is not related to acne. Unlike acne, there are no blackheads or whiteheads.
NOTE: The topical products for problem skin conditions are only available following a Skin Consultation With A Skin Specialist.
